What’s Happening?
August 17, 2008
Been crazy busy. So here is a quick run down of my recent life adventures:
- Summer Sizzler is a Tennessee Conference youth event that I was asked to speak at. It is held at the conference owned property in mountains. It was a great event and I was really honored to be able to speak there. It was hot as blazes but totally worth it. And it was nice to get my foot in the process of trying to help with some conference stuff. (We are in the midst of recovering from some significant leadership drama but are going to come out the other side.
- My summer interns are gone. It is quiet around here.
- Pyro II rocked my world again. I was so blessed to be able to come to Pyro II, the middle school camp run by Colonial Church in Edina, MN. My buddies Brian and Danielle are serving on staff there and asked me to come back this year. I was able to take my buddy/ former youth/ former intern Michael with me, who did some fantastic work. We are talking about starting a Columbia District camp and I loved being able to cull some great ideas off of Pyro II, which has like a 30+ year history. (Pyro II is held at Covenant Pines Bible Camp in McGregor, MN. They do great work and I was impressed with their staff and long term plans this year. If you are in the midwest, I recommend it.)
- My dad had surgery while I was at camp. Keep him in your prayers as his recovery seems to be going well.
- I missed my niece’s 4 year old birthday, which evidently was a week once you programmed in pre- and post-day activities. I really hated missing it but I am sure I can still be the favorite uncle with a little work.
- Michael, Turff (who made his annual post from South Africa) and I are talking about going to Dragon*Con. My mom wanted to know what I was dressing up as. Sigh. Not all geeks dress up. And for real, some geeks totally shouldn’t dress up at all. And if I was, it would be the Incredible Hulk and people would consistently ask me if I was Jabba the Hut.
- Tonight, we get our fall stuff up and running hard. Fall Kick-Off where sign-ups happen, we talk strategy and get some feedback. The vibe right now seems so solid but I need to work the crowd some for some help. After being promised a 20 hour assistant, managing with 10 hours for a season and a spring without, I am looking at running this whole enchilada solo administratively for a long season. I am going to need some help.

Did you hear Fillion is now slated for the Con? And yes, you have to dress up. I think you should go as Mr. Fantastic.
